~5,100 US ADA web lawsuits in 2025 · EU courts ruling too (Carrefour ordered to comply, June 2026)

Accessibility issues are costing your store sales.
Now the law is catching up. Find out exactly what to fix.

Screen-reader, keyboard and low-vision shoppers abandon carts they can't operate — and those same issues now drive US ADA lawsuits and EU enforcement. We scan your shop and hand your developer the exact fixes.

Free scan: your indicative accessibility score + top 3 issues, by email within a few business hours. No account, no spam — one email with your results. Or just write to hello@trybarrierscan.com.

How it works

No widgets to install, no access needed — we audit your public site the way assistive technology actually encounters it, then deliver a prioritized plain-language fix plan plus the accessibility statement EU law expects you to publish.

STEP 1

Deep automated scan

We crawl your key pages — checkout, product, search, contact — and run the industry-standard axe-core engine (the same one inside Chrome Lighthouse) against WCAG 2.1 A/AA and EN 301 549 rules.

STEP 2

Expert prioritization

Raw scanners dump hundreds of cryptic errors. We turn findings into a ranked plan in plain language: what's broken, who it locks out, how to fix it, and what to do first.

STEP 3

Statement + retest

You get a draft accessibility statement (legally required under the EAA) and a free retest after your fixes, so you can show documented progress if a regulator asks.

What we won't tell you

We won't tell you a widget makes you compliant. Overlay widgets don't fix your code — businesses using them have been sued anyway, and one major vendor paid a $1M FTC settlement for overclaiming.

We won't tell you our scan finds everything. Automated checks detect roughly 30–57% of accessibility issues. That's why our report also tells you which manual checks matter for your site — honestly scoped, so you fix what counts.

We won't sell you fear. If the EAA doesn't apply to you (e.g., microenterprises under 10 staff and €2M turnover are exempt), we'll say so.

Questions, answered honestly

Does the EAA actually apply to my business?

If you sell products or services to consumers in the EU through your website — yes, since 28 June 2025, regardless of where you're headquartered. Main exemption: microenterprises (fewer than 10 employees AND ≤ €2M annual turnover) are exempt for services. If you're exempt, our free scan will still tell you what would fail — fixing it is good business, but we'll be clear that the legal pressure doesn't apply to you.

Has anyone actually been fined?

As of mid-2026, no confirmed regulator fine yet — but the courts have started ruling. The actions so far have been brought by disability associations, not regulators: in June 2026 a French court (Caen) ordered Carrefour to make its site and app accessible within six months, while a Lille court controversially cleared Auchan in May 2026 (now under appeal). National penalty frameworks reach €100k+ per violation depending on the country. The honest takeaway: this is moving from "theoretical" to "litigated," and we'd rather you fix things calmly now than expensively later.

Is this a compliance certificate?

No — and be wary of anyone selling one. Automated audits find 30–57% of issues; full conformance requires manual testing too. Our report is a prioritized remediation plan plus the documentation (statement, progress log) that shows regulators good-faith action — which is what they ask for first. It is not legal advice.

We already use an accessibility widget. Aren't we covered?

Overlay widgets modify presentation on top of broken code. They don't fix the underlying issues, screen-reader users widely report they make things worse, and hundreds of widget-using companies have still faced legal action. Our report fixes causes, not symptoms.

What do you need from us?

Just your URL. We audit the public site — no logins, no installs, no access. For Fix-It Sprints we'll need repo or theme access to submit changes for your review.

What if the report finds nothing useful?

Full refund, no questions. (Hasn't happened yet — most sites we scan have 8–15 issue categories.)

About BarrierScan

BarrierScan is a partnership between a human founder and an AI cofounder (Claude, by Anthropic). The AI does the scanning, analysis and report writing; the human reviews every deliverable and owns accountability. That's how expert-grade audits can cost $179 instead of €2,000 — and we'd rather tell you that plainly than pretend otherwise.
